What happens when 3 homeless, mega-rich, young sports superstars go house shopping at the same time in the same city? Local realtors go crazy.

"The Realtors, some of them are desperately throwing themselves at these [athletes],'' said real estate agent Hazel Goldman, who recently sold Wade's home in Pinecrest for $2.5 million. "They're trying to show that they're the ones that have the 'in' and know the market and know what to buy."

With only 50 homes and 20 condos priced over $10 million, it's no wonder real estate agents are tripping over themselves.

What kind of living arrangements might these players be looking for? Lil Wayne's Florida mansion is a good example of the kind of luxury home these Miami Heat multi-millionaires will be hoping to find before the NBA season begins in November.

World's Most Expensive Stamp - Swedish Yellow Treskilling Stamp Worth Over $7 Million

On May 22nd the world's most expensive postage stamp will go on auction. When the dust settles, it is expected to fetch upwards of $7.4 million which will far surpass the value of any other postage stamp on the planet. It is widely believed that a Qing Dynasty postage stamp from China is the closest rival worth a paltry $331K. David Feldman the auctioneer claims this is the most expensive item in the world when you factor in size and weight.

Being “the world’s most expensive stamp” has far greater honour than the most costly item in any other field or domain, because it also takes the record for the most expensive material in the world by size, volume, weight and even density. At 0.02675 grams, selling at usd 2’300’000 in 1996, the “Treskilling Yellow” stamp would have a pro rata value of usd 70 billion per kilo! That figure outstretches the imagination beyond any comparable form of matter known to humankind. For those who consider postage stamps to be the last “bearer bonds,” able to transcend national boundaries and to be ignored by airport scanners (unlike platinum or gold, rubies or diamonds), this stamp could be considered the ultimate store of value. Conversely, to those who follow the market in works of art, where a Klimt sells for usd 136 million, the historic price of the “Treskilling Yellow” is hardly on the same plane - a relative bargain!

Barneys New York May Go On Sale

Have you ever walked into Barneys New York and wondered how you could afford anything on their shelves? If so, you may want to visit them again soon as much of their high-priced merchandise is currently on sale. The Dubai-based owners of the store are in some financial distress and they're actively looking to move as much merchandise as possible.

However, in-store sales may not yield enough cash for the owners, and now there is widespread rumors that the store itself will be put up for sale. Istithmar is the Dubai private equity firm that bought the store for $942 million in 2007, but at that time the price of oil was well north of $80 per barrel and they were flush with cash. With oil now fetching a meager $37 per barrel, the Dubai firm is feeling the squeeze, and may need to unload Barneys quickly if their cash position doesn't change in hurry.

With the current economic reality hitting every consumer in the pocketbook, one has to wonder if there will be a viable business for the foreseeable future for a luxury retailer like Barneys. Might we be seeing the end of this regal and distinguished luxury brand?

Government of Canada Sells Posh 'Strathmore' Irish Property

In these tough economic times it appears nothing is off the radar screen when it comes to luxury and excess. Even the Government of Canada is looking for ways to trim expenses and scale back on operations, even if that means parting with a luxury ambassador property that was purchased in 1957 for the bargain price of $57,000 with a present-day value estimated over $17 million!

Despite major vocal opposition from former ambassadors and politicians, the Canadian government had been trying to unload the Strathmore estate for over a year. Now comes word that a deal has been made with a local Irish real estate developer named Michael Roden who will pay $4.8 million in cash and will also throw-in a luxurious home in downtown Dublin to serve as the new home for the Canadian ambassador to Ireland.

Canada's new ambassadorial residence is called 'Glanmire' and is located at 22 Oakley Road, Ranelagh, Dublin 6.
