Royal Caribbean's Project Genesis Readies For 2009 Undocking

Peel me a grape. That may be the only thing 'Project Genesis' won't do for you as a passenger on the largest and most luxurious cruise ship ever built. Maybe that's a moniker that has been thrown around too often with each new ship trying to top the other. But in the case of Project Genesis, this is truly the mother of all vessels. The ship is 1180 feet long and can transport 5400 passengers in the lap of luxury. The ship literally has 'neighborhoods', that's how big this baby is. There is even a Central Park in the middle of the ship.

Enhancements to the cruise line’s signature Royal Promenade will include a new design allowing guests to have a physical connection with the neighborhood above, Central Park, as natural light cascades down from the sky through the Crystal Canopy sculptured glass domes. Other surprises include two rock-climbing walls and the first zip-line at sea suspended nine decks above Boardwalk.
The ship has cost Royal Caribbean $1.24 billion to build and they are truly looking to redefine the cruise experience. For example, Project Genesis has 28 two-level loft suites with floor to ceiling windows and this is one of 37 different accommodation options.

“With our history of introducing game-changing amenities, we’re pleased to be able to answer the question of ‘what could possibly come next?’” said Richard D. Fain, Chairman & CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. "We are particularly excited about the neighborhood concept which gives guests compelling choices and the ability to flow seamlessly throughout the ship to meet their individual desires and preferences."
The 'Oasis of the Seas' or Project Genesis will set sail out of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida which currently services over 4 million passengers annually.
